Traces

detail through crack of ”Traces 3”

Vittringar, 2014-2016

concrete filler, mdf, dibond, xps-foam, mirrors, acrylic, leds

The title “Vittringar” (Traces) being the plural form of the Swedish word weathering, corresponds with the aging surface, suggesting vulnerability and decay. The second meaning of the word is a sense of positive expectation. And as one approaches the fissure of the object, the experience shifts. A subtle apparatus of light and mirrors enable an illusory experience of depth, far beyond the wall. And through the crack, a distant light can be observed, finding its way through an overgrown system of caves.

The first piece in this series s permanently installed at the hospital Akademiska Sjukhuset in Uppsala Sweden since 2016.

The piece ”Traces 3” from this series was included in the EMMA-museum collection along with the piece Chambers 1. And in 2018 Furbacken’s works were part of the group exhibition No Ordinary Moments at Espoo Museum of Modern Art, Finland.
