Biography
Oscar Furbacken was born in Gothenburg, Sweden 1980 and spent ten years of his childhood in the suburbs of Paris. He graduated 2011 from the Royal Institute of Arts in Stockholm, where he is currently based.
The works he produces cover a wide range of media including video, sculpture and photography. His projects are based on observations of natural phenomena from his surroundings. The sceneries depicted by the artist often refer to the symbiotic lives of small organisms like moss and lichen and their strategies for coping with change and adversity.
Inspired by physics, ecology, existential thought and poetry, Oscar Furbacken investigates how perception influences how we interact with other living beings and our planet as a whole. He experiments with lighting and optical equipement in a very small scale as to deconstruct landscape itself in sculptural fragments and installations.
By shedding light on sprouting patches of micro wilderness Furbacken studies the palpable tensions between nature and our modern civilization.
