Eftereld – Oscar Furbacken
Including painting, video, sculpture and installation, the extensive exhibition ”Eftereld" was on view at S.P.G until 1st June 2024.
As an integral part of the show, Oscar Furbacken has created the site-specific installation "Tear”(Reva). This monumental cleft seamlessly integrates behind the wall, challenging the very concept of a gallery exhibition. Intrigued by the torn veil and in relation to the planetary ruptures of the Anthropocene, the artist explores the meaning of perception at many levels.
The exhibition is part of a larger project the artist has been working on inspired by what happens in nature after the trauma of wildfire. Furbacken’s film "Cinder Oasis" along with the sculptural pieces reveal a fascinating process of new ecosystems rising from the ashes.
“In a large installation, which must have required significant interventions in the gallery wall, a lightning-like crack becomes an almost full-scale entrance to what Rilke called the wondrous mine of souls, a suspension of the boundary between art and space.”
/Nils Forsberg
Translated excerpt from the review below. Dagens Nyheter, 15 May 2024
“[…] en serie målningar visar röken av skogsbränder ovanifrån. Det är en ödesmättad och stark gestaltning av det som sker i vår tid, med elden som utplånar och förvandlar allt i dess väg.”
/Lena Boëthius, Konsten.net
"[…] Miniatyrvärldarna öppnar sig som smala slitsar och skrevor där den sista eftereldens tecken lyser och vägleder."
/Susanna Slöör, Omkonst
”[…] the artist has created an illusion of depth that counters the first impression of the object. There are little fungi and algae looking shapes made of Parian porcelain, a thin almost transparent type of porcelain that here, illuminated by LEDs, appears translucent.
/Magnus af Petersens, excerpt from text about the project.
